What Is A Vector File?

The two file formats used for wall and window graphics are raster and vector types. With these types, various filename extensions exist, but they essentially fall into one of the two categories.  It is important to understand the differences between the two and where they can be best used.

Common vector file extensions include:

.ai Short for Adobe Illustrator files.
.eps Encapsulated Post Script
.svg Scalable Vector Graphcs
.pdf Portable Document Format

Raster images comprise many pixels that form the picture, and there could be millions of pixels required to create the picture at the given size. When a raster image increases dimension, there is a risk of having a grainy or pixelated image as the original pixel count does not increase.

Vector graphics consist of nodes connected by straight or curved lines. With these elements, it is possible to increase or decrease the size of a graphic image without the loss of image quality. For example, to create a box, four nodes are only required, one each corner with straight lines connecting each node. You can use the same four nodes to form a circle by replacing the straight lines with curved lines.

Best use of vector files.

Vector files are ideal window and wall graphics for your logo, mission statements, or other text and illustration-based graphics.

Benefits
  • Easily scalable
  • It can be converted to a high-resolution raster image.
  • The file size is generally much smaller.
